This Italian Meatball Burger is our take on an American classic; the cheeseburger! Summer grillin’ with an Italian twist! This meal is a fast and easy way to please many at a summer barbeque.
Ingredients:
6 kaiser rolls
8 oz sweet or spicy Italian sausage
1 lb. ground sirloin
6 tablespoons Grandpa Pete’s Sunday Sauce
1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
1/2 tsp fennel seeds, crushed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 garlic clove, minced
6 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
6 large basil leaves
Directions:
Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
Remove sausage from casing and combine with basil, oregano, fennel seeds, salt, garlic, and sirloin. Divide into 6 portions and shape into 1/2″ thick patties.
Grill 6 minutes then flip. Grill 2 minutes, place cheese on top and grill 6 minutes more (to 160 degree F temp). Remove and let stand for 5 minutes.
Lightly grill the rolls if you choose. Place 1 basil leaf and burger on each roll, top with Sunday Sauce.
